Prof. Jiangfeng Du's "Precise quantum measurement at nanoscale" selected as Ten major scientific and technological progress in Colleges and Universities in 2015

The work of "Precise quantum measurement at nanoscale" of Prof. Jiangfeng Du's research group was recently selected as one of the Ten major scientific and technological progress in Colleges and Universities in 2015. In this work, a single nitrogen-vacancy inside a diamond is used to image a DNA or protein inside a live cell. It is a first step toward a single molecule electron spin resonance spectrometer by demonstrating detection of a single protein Electron Spin Resonance spectrum under ambient conditions. Science reported this work and says "An important milestone toward this goal is reported by Shi et al. ... They show that motions of a segment of a single protein are inferred by the magnetic signal of a nuclear spin on a nitroxide spin label located 10 nm away from a diamond nanomagnetometer."
